[Verse 1]
I met you by the saffron river
Bare feet in the dust, my skirt was torn
You held out a fig, sweet and simple
Like you knew I’d been gone too long

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, the moon bent low
Over painted stone
My name in your mouth
Felt like home

[Chorus]
Saffron river, take me there
Saffron river, pull my hair
Saffron river, wild and bright
Carry me through the night (through the night)

[Verse 2]
You wore red thread on your wrist
And the salt of the sea in your laugh
I kept my fear in a little clay jar
Till you broke it open at last

[Pre-Chorus]
Oh, the drums came near
Like a second heart
Your hands on my shoulders
Set the dark apart

[Chorus]
Saffron river, take me there
Saffron river, pull my hair
Saffron river, wild and bright
Carry me through the night (through the night)

[Bridge]
If I leave, I leave singing
If I stay, I stay brave
Call my name in the firelight
I will follow the wave

[Chorus]
Saffron river, take me there
Saffron river, pull my hair
Saffron river, wild and bright
Carry me through the night (through the night)
